David Astbury continues to go from strength to strength in his key defensive role with Richmond.

Although Alex Rance received rave reviews for his outstanding display across the Tigers’ backline in last Saturday’s clash with Sydney at the MCG, Astbury wasn’t far behind him in terms of the influence he exerted throughout the contest.

After picking up an equal season-high 20 disposals against North Melbourne in Round 11, leading into the bye, Astbury finished with 19 touches against the Swans and took a season-high 13 marks, including a game-high seven intercept grabs. He also had an equal game-high 12 intercepts.

The 26-year-old is averaging an AFL career-high 15.3 disposals this season, along with 6.5 marks.

He is ranked 19th in the competition for total marks and 20th for contested marks.
