A record number of five players departed Richmond during the AFL’s 2018 trade/free agency period.

The Tigers traded out Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis to Gold Coast, Sam Lloyd to Western Bulldogs, Tyson Stengle to Adelaide, and lost the services of Reece Conca, as an unrestricted free agent to Fremantle.

That’s the most players to leave Tigerland at the same time since the introduction of the competition’s trade system in the late 1980s.

The previous largest amount of player departures occurred in 1997, when Richmond traded four to rival league clubs – Jamie Tape and Bradley Smith to Collingwood, Chris Bond to Fremantle and Chris Naish to Port Adelaide.

Smith, however, hadn’t played a senior game for the Tigers, and he managed only one in a three-year career with the Magpies.
