Rising Richmond wingman Patrick Retschko has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the Swinburne Centre until at least the end of 2028.
Retschko's upward trajectory since joining the Tigers has been tremendous, as the 20-year-old has established himself at senior level.
Geelong selected Retschko with pick 23 in the 2024 rookie draft and he enjoyed a strong season playing in the Cats’ VFL program last year.
Richmond then pounced on Retschko, a lifelong Tigers fan, on the final day of last year’s trade period, acquiring him for pick 99 in the 2025 national draft.
Retschko made an instant impact over the summer with the Tigers, impressing with his work ethic and attitude over the pre-season. He won Richmond’s Bronco Test in the pre-season, a testament to his elite running ability.
That hard work helped Retschko make his AFL debut in Round 6 against North Melbourne, and he has held his senior spot ever since.
The highlight of Retschko's season has been his outstanding performance in the Dreamtime at the ‘G win, where he won the AFL Rising Star nomination after recording 27 disposals, 15 kicks, 12 handballs and eight marks.
Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Talent, Blair Hartley, said Retschko has earned his new contract.
“We are delighted to have Patrick committed to the Club for a further two years,” Hartley said.
“His professionalism since arriving at Richmond has seen him already make an instant impact at AFL level.
“This new deal is a credit to how Patrick has immersed himself into the Club’s culture and we are excited to see what the future holds.”
