With Richmond preparing for its Round 18 clash against Essendon at the MCG this Saturday night, we remember some of the most iconic moments throughout our longstanding rivalry.

Kicking off our stroll down memory lane is the do-or-die Semi-Final of 1995, where a determined Tigers outfit turned around a five-goal deficit to claim a thrilling 13-point victory.

On the verge of being bundled out in straight sets, having lost the week before to the Kangaroos, Richmond had everything to play for.

Richmond's acting captain, Matthew Knights, led from the front, tallying an impressive 17 disposals, three goals and two tackles, giving his team a much-needed spark.

The Tiger Army gave their side a boost in energy, erupting from the Punt Road end when small forward Chris Naish kicked two straight to take the lead in the third term.

Richmond went on to secure the win after a hard-fought fourth quarter, making the 1995 Semi-Final one of the most memorable victories in the Club’s history.

Tiger fans will remember one of the greatest debuts in Club history when Dean Polo wore the yellow and black for the first time in Round 6 of 2006 in Dreamtime at the ‘G.

Polo had a dream debut, collecting 28 disposals, six marks and three goals, single-handedly willing his side to a two-point victory.

He went on to win the Yiooken Award, given to the best player on the ground during the Dreamtime match, notched three Brownlow votes, and earned a Rising Star Nomination.

Another thrilling contest against the Bombers took place in Round 13, 2020, when the inaugural Dreamtime in Darwin match was held.

In what felt like a one-sided affair, Richmond’s inaccuracy in front of goal kept the Bombers in the game longer than they would have liked, with the final score being 10.13 (73) to Essendon’s 10.1 (61).

Richmond recorded 42 more inside-50s than the Bombers, and it was led by no other than three-time Norm Smith medallist Dustin Martin, who accumulated 29 disposals, seven clearances and nine score involvements.

However, it was former Tiger Shai Bolton, who designed the Dreamtime jumper, who shone the brightest, earning himself the Yiooken Award, finishing the game with 28 disposals and a goal.
