After finishing ninth last season and bowing out in the Wildcard round, Richmond’s VFL side are looking to go deeper in September this year.

The 2025 season has seen some great growth amongst AFL and VFL-listed players, with the Round 16 game against Southport featuring 17-VFL listed Tigers.

Here is how Richmond's VFL side sits with four home-and-away games to play, with a look ahead to our opposition across the next month.

Ladder Position: 9th, 36 points (nine wins, five losses), 95.4%

It all starts with a battle against Werribee on Saturday afternoon, as coach Jake Batchelor looks for continued improvement from a young playing group.

“We want to get more connected; we want to get a better understanding and completion of our game plan for longer periods,” Batchelor said.

The first-year VFL coach is taking things one week at a time, as the team prepares to put their best foot forward against Werribee.

“We just want to go again, we’ve got another four-week block and we’re not looking too far past that,” Batchelor said.

“We’ve got Werribee, who are proven winners and a strong and physical football team.”

The Tigers' recent injuries in the AFL has opened the door for more VFL-listed players to grab their opportunities.

Tom Ferguson and Reuben Hanson both played their first games in the yellow and black against Southport, while the likes of Harry Scott, Lachy Wilson, Lachlan Street, Mutaz El Nour and others have been consistent high-level performers all season.

“We got great exposure with VFL-listed players getting some games, I think we had 17 out of the 23 as VFL-listed players (against Southport), so it’s great feedback for where our program is at in a VFL sense,” Batchelor said.

Richmond will hope to finish the home-and-away season in style, aiming to qualify for finals football for the first time since its flag triumph in 2019, after losing in the Wildcard round last year.
