STEVEN Morris, the son of Richmond's dual premiership player Kevin Morris, heads the list of young Tigers players who've been named in the squad of 34 for Friday night's opening round of the NAB Cup.

Morris, now 23, last year had a breakout season with West Adelaide as a small defender who became more attacking as the season progressed.

He was traded by GWS for pick 14 before last year's NAB AFL Draft. After excellent performances in the Tigers' intra-club matches, he's considered a strong chance to be named in the team to play Carlton in round one of the AFL season.

The club's three selections in the 2011 national draft, Brandon Ellis (pick 15), Todd Elton (26) and Matt Arnot (55), have also been named. Ellis and Arnot are nuggety midfielders while Elton is a ruckman and forward in the vein of Tyrone Vickery.

Ellis, like Morris, considered a strong chance to play against Carlton in round one, in the half-back flank position that's likely to be vacated by the move of Brett Deledio into the midfield.

Deledio will miss the NAB Cup's opening round, the triangular series against Hawthorn and North Melbourne, because of a hamstring injury. He's also expected to miss the next match, against Fremantle at Patersons Stadium.

Tall defender Dylan Grimes will make a return after being ruled out for the rest of the 2011 season in round 10 because of a serious hamstring injury.

Tom Derickx and Matt Dea have been named in the squad. Derickx, who has been training as a tall forward during the pre-season, is hoping to use the NAB Cup to break into the Tigers' line-up for his AFL debut.

Brett O'Hanlon and Rookie Steven Verrier round out the squad.
