Richmond co-captain Toby Nankervis paid a glowing tribute to Shane Edwards following the last game of the veteran Tiger star’s AFL career in last Thursday night’s elimination final loss to Brisbane at the Gabba.

Edwards, who made his senior debut with Richmond in 2007, bowed out 15 years later as a 303-game Yellow and Black icon.

“He’s had an amazing career,” Nankervis told Richmond Media during a post-match interview.

“I think on-field probably speaks for itself – 300 games, All Australian, three premierships and he’s just been such a great, stalwart team player . . . makes others around him better.

“But his legacy is probably off-field. He’s such a great person and a great leader.

“His legacy will last forever at the Richmond Footy Club.

“I’m so lucky I played with Shane for a few years . . .

“He’s an absolute champion bloke.”
