Richmond’s first pick (No. 15 overall) in the 2015 National Draft, Daniel Rioli, is one of the three nominations this week for the AFL’s Goal of the Year.

The exciting small forward received the nomination for a brilliant goal he kicked during the third quarter of the Tigers’ Round 4 clash with West Coast at Domain Stadium last Friday night.

Rioli underlined his sheer class and clever goal sense, when he swooped on the ball after it had spilt out of a big pack from a marking contest, was brought to the ground in a tackle, but quickly sprang back up, dodged a couple of opponents, and snapped truly.

Here’s how Channel Seven commentator and triple Geelong premiership star Cameron Ling described Rioli’s superb six-pointer . . .

“Great to see . . . just his third game of AFL footy, the composure here from Daniel Rioli, and the footwork, to step out, buy himself some time . . . beautiful finish.  He’s kicked two tonight . . .”

It shapes as the first of many Goal of the Year nominations for the talented Tiger cub.
