Richmond captain Trent Cotchin will be awarded his retrospective 2012 Brownlow Medal by the AFL Commission at a special lunchtime function in Melbourne on Tuesday, December 13.

Cotchin and Sam Mitchell were declared joint winners of the game's most prestigious individual honour after Essendon's Jobe Watson opted to hand the Brownlow back earlier this month in the wake of the Bombers’ supplements saga.

The ceremony will be part of the AFL Commission's meeting that day, with the presentation starting at noon and expected to take an hour.

Later in the afternoon, Cotchin and Mitchell will have a private gathering to celebrate their Brownlow Medal success.

Cotchin took over as Richmond’s captain following his breakout 2012 season.

Mitchell was at Hawthorn in 2012, but was traded to West Coast at the end of the 2016 season.

Further details of the retrospective 2012 Brownlow Medal ceremony will be announced closer to the day.
