We continue our special series at richmondfc.com.au, asking Tiger fans to select the best player to have worn each of the most significant guernsey numbers in the Club’s history.  To assist in your quest, we have profiled those players who have racked up a minimum of 50 games in the number.  The game totals and years listed relate to those played while wearing the specific number, not total Richmond career numbers.  Today, we turn our attention to No. 31.

No. 31

Leo Maguire – 96 games, 1941-1948

Powerfully-built centre half-back, who was renowned for his marking ability and long left-foot kicking.  Was a valuable member of Richmond’s 1943 premiership side and 1944 Grand Final line-up.

Chris Hyde – 93 games, 2002-2008

Hard-working, left-footed utility, who carried out some important run-with assignments for the Tigers’ team.  Got the most out of his football ability during a seven-season stint at Punt Road.

Brendan Bower – 92 games, 1986-1991

Dashing wingman/half-back.  Was a member of the Richmond under-19s premiership side in 1985 and went on to be a handy contributor at senior level for the Tigers.

Kevin Dillon – 88 games, 1949-1955

Classy half-back.  Won Richmond’s Best First Year Player award in 1949 and the Club’s Most Determined trophy in 1954.  Also was runner-up in the ’54 Best and Fairest award.

Nick Vlastuin – 61 games, 2013-2015

The Tigers’ first pick (No. 9 overall) has established himself as one of the competition’s best young defenders.  Has fine composure, heaps of courage, is a good kick and he’s struck an impressive balance between tight defence and creative rebound out of the backline.  Finished equal sixth in the 2015 Jack Dyer Medal.
