Richmond’s rising star defender Dylan Grimes has arrived in Munich, Germany, for treatment on his injured hamstring.

Grimes, along with the Tigers’ strength and rehabilitation coach, Terry Condon, will spend a week with world-renowned doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt.

The treatment involves Grimes being injected with actovegin, an extract of calf’s blood, and anti-inflammatory traumeel, in an effort to stimulate muscle repair.

He also will receive chiropractic treatment, physiotherapy and undergo rehabilitation, plus cross-training exercises, while overseas.

It is a similar treatment to that experienced by former Richmond midfielder Mark Coughlan and Geelong premiership player Max Rooke.

“Clearly, Dylan has had some trouble with hamstring injuries in the recent past, so we decided the best course of action was to send him to Germany to work with Dr Muller- Wohlfahrt,” said Richmond’s Elite Performance Manager, Matt Hornsby.

“We were impressed with the results when Mark Coughlan went over a few years ago and we believe this will assist Dylan in the long term.”

Grimes suffered a season-ending, hamstring tendon injury last year in the Dreamtime at the ‘G match against Essendon.

In the corresponding fixture this season, the 20-year-old injured his other hamstring and, in his return to the seniors against Adelaide in Round 14, he suffered a hamstring tendon strain.
