Rond star Brandon Ellis wants to focus on improving his contested-ball work, in the next phase of his league football development.

Ellis enjoyed the best season of his three-year AFL career in 2014, averaging 26.1 disposals per game, and being named in the initial 40-player All-Australian squad.

But the hard-running midfielder believes he can take his game to a higher level by becoming a more complete player.

“I’ll be just trying to work on my contested ball, my inside game,” Ellis told ‘Roar Vision’ in a post-season interview.

“Obviously, everyone can play outside, and everyone can run and do the flashy stuff.  But you’ve got to be able to win your own ball, and that’s an area I need to improve on.  I think I’m slowly doing that.

“I’ll definitely keep continuing to work on my contested stuff, because I’d love to be able to play a lot more time in the centre-square bounces with ‘Cotchy’ (Trent Cotchin) and ‘Dusty’ (Dustin Martin) and those type of guys.

“Obviously, I’ve just got to keep up my fitness, and just keep up my skills.

“But I think contested ball will be probably No. 1 over the pre-season.”
