Jacob Townsend’s stunning six-goal display in his first senior game for Richmond this season, against Fremantle at Domain Stadium yesterday, was even more impressive when you consider the following facts . . .

• It was the equal-third most goals kicked in a match by an AFL player during season 2017. Only West Coast’s Josh Kennedy, seven goals v North Melbourne, Round 1 and Sydney’s Lance Franklin, eight goals v Brisbane, Round 7, have scored more.

• It was the equal most goals in a match by a Richmond player since Jack Riewoldt’s 11 v GWS in Round 10, 2014 at Spotless Stadium.

• He had kicked a total of just four goals all-up in his 32 AFL games (28 for GWS, four with Richmond) before Sunday’s clash.

From an overall Tigers’ perspective yesterday, their final score of 25.5 (155) was the highest ever recorded by any team in AFL/VFL history from 30 scoring shots.

It was their highest score against Fremantle, topping the 23.10 (148) they registered in Round 7, 2011.

Their winning margin of 104 points was their biggest v the Dockers, bettering the 90-point victory over them in Round 14, 1998 at the MCG.

It was the equal biggest winning margin by any league team in 2017 (along with Sydney v Fremantle in Round 21.

It was Richmond’s biggest win against any opposition since defeating GWS by 113 points in Round 10, 2014 at Spotless Stadium.

And the 25 goals kicked by the Tigers was the equal most scored by any AFL team in a match this season (Geelong finished with 25.13 v Brisbane in Round 16).
