The total of four changes from Richmond’s 2017 premiership team, to the line-up for Thursday night’s 2018 season-opener against Carlton, is just about par from a Tigers’ historical perspective.

It’s the same number of changes Richmond made in Round 1 of the 1921 season, after winning the Club’s inaugural league football premiership in 1920, and in the opening round 50 years ago, following the 1967 flag triumph.

The most changes the Tigers have made from premiership to Round 1, is six.

That occurred in 1975, with future 1980 premiership captain Bruce Monteath being included to make his senior league debut for Richmond after transferring from WAFL club South Fremantle.

The least number of changes from premiership to Round 1 was in 1933, when just one was made.

That was a fairly significant change . . . a young Jack Dyer returning from the severe knee injury, which had prevented him from being a member of the Tigers’ 1932 premiership side.
