The on-field attributes of talented Richmond playmaker Shane Edwards are certainly familiar to those of the Yellow and Black persuasion.

But what’s not as evident about Edwards, to those outside Tigerland, is the valuable role he plays off the field.

Star Richmond key defender Alex Rance pointed this out during an on-ground interview with ‘Fox Footy’ following the team’s 33-point victory over Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium last Saturday night, in what was Edwards’ 200th AFL game.

“Not a lot of people see this, but behind the scenes he’s a bit of glue for the Club,” Rance told ‘Fox Footy’.

“He gets along with everyone, connects everyone, and we love having him.

“He’s really connected the Indigenous boys, too.

“You see the likes of Shai Bolton, Dan Rioli and Tyson Stengle, as well, coming along really nicely.

“He really connects those boys to make them really part of the group.”

Edwards performed admirably in game No. 200 against the Suns, finishing with 19 disposals, including nine contested possessions, three clearances, eight score involvements, an equal game-high three goal assists and six tackles.

“The way he’s playing, he’s probably going to play another hundred (games) at least, let’s hope,” Rance said.
