It’s testament to the excellent character of Anthony Miles that he’s been able to push aside any disappointment about not being able to nail down a permanent spot in Richmond’s senior line-up this year, and produce such a consistently high standard of football at VFL level with the Tigers.

Miles has managed just five senior appearances in 2017, after 55 in his three previous seasons at Tigerland.

His VFL form, however, has been nothing short of outstanding.

He’s rated a big chance to win this year’s Liston Trophy, as the best and fairest player in the VFL competition, because of the midfield dominance he’s displayed right throughout the season.

The 25-year-old ‘ball-magnet’ was at it again in the Richmond VFL team’s thrilling elimination final win against Collingwood at North Port Oval, finishing with 37 disposals, including 19 contested possessions, nine clearances, six inside-50s and one goal in another best-on-ground, inside midfield master class.

Post-match, Miles paid tribute to the Tigers’ VFL coach Craig McRae for what he’s been able to achieve with the players at his disposal during the season.

“Our VFL program’s really strong, and Craig McRae’s got a really good bond between the VFL and the AFL guys,” Miles said.

“He’s created a great club environment.

“So, while a lot of guys would probably like to be playing AFL, it’s always nice to come back and play with those guys.

“It’s great to have both sides in (the finals) . . . I think we’ve got one injury at the whole club at the moment.”
