A bit of belief went a long way for Richmond in Thursday night’s season-opener against Carlton, according to Tiger big man Ben Griffiths.

Richmond was nine points down at three-quarter time and struggling to keep up with a resurgent Blues’ outfit.

Griffiths, however, feels that growing confidence within the playing group enabled the Tigers to outscore their arch rivals 4.2 to 1.2 in the final term and secure a nine-point victory.

“Every player in the side has the utmost confidence in each other,” Griffiths said.

“At that three-quarter time break, we just had to compose ourselves, and we did that really well.

“We came out and won some critical contests, and that was really important in getting the win.

“It was more about focusing our attention on what we needed to do and going through the process.

“We were very confident if we could do that, we’d walk away with the points.”

Griffiths was at the Royal Children’s Hospital on Friday morning – not just to visit sick children – but also his sister Lisa, who is a nurse there.

“It’s really good to come and see my sister in her element, and support the kids as well,” he said.

“If we can put a smile on a face, it’s a great feeling.”
