Richmond defender Dylan Grimes will be sidelined for two weeks with an “unusual and rare” hamstring tendon injury.

Club physical performance manager Peter Burge said Grimes was struck with a semitendinosus injury late in the opening term of the Tigers’ Round 2 match against Collingwood at the MCG last Friday night.

“It’s an unusual and rare injury,” Burge said.

“He did have this issue last year versus Adelaide as well and missed two games. We’re anticipating it will be approximately the same, so we’ll see how that goes.”

In better news for the Tigers, Burge declared that small forward Shane Edwards and ruckman Ivan Maric were tracking well to play in the Club’s Round 3 match against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Maric has missed the first two rounds of the season with a back injury, while Edwards injured his hand in the season-opener against Carlton.

“Both are available at this stage, providing they get through training this week, but we’re looking forward to having them back,” Burge said.

Richmond debutant Jayden Short, who booted three goals in a lively performance on Friday night, was cleared of any damage to his left shoulder.

Burge ruled out Brett Deledio, who is still battling a quadricep injury, for this Saturday’s clash against the Crows.

“Right now he’s running flat out, he’s resumed kicking, but it’s very short kicking at this stage and we’ll progress that over the next week,” he said.

Burge said Tigers recruit Chris Yarran was also making progress after having foot surgery.

“Chris started running on the treadmill on Saturday, he’ll…be running outside on the grass by the end of the week,” he said.

“He still has to go through his rehab phase then get some match fitness. Hopefully we’ll see him probably a month or thereabouts, six weeks.”
