Richmond star key defender Alex Rance has praised the Club for the way it handled his contract negotiations, culminating in the announcement over the weekend that he would be staying at Tigerland until at least the end of the 2019 season.

“The Club’s been fantastic . . . they haven't put any pressure on me.  I think if I started to feel pressure inside the four walls, then it might have affected my form,” Rance said.

“It was tough, but I was pretty pumped with the way that ‘Richo’ (General Manager of Football Dan Richardson), ‘Dimma’ (coach Damien Hardwick) and the Club managed it and helped me through it.  They were very supportive.

“When it came really down to the crunch, I knew that it was probably Richmond or nothing at all . . .”

Rance then expanded on the reasons why he was so keen to remain a Tiger.

“We’ve got great leaders, great values, great leadership from a board perspective and down,” he said.

“I do believe that this club can have some great success . . .

“And I really love the core group as well – the core group of boys that just really support the leadership group and the coaches really well.”
