Richmond board member Malcolm Speed has been recognised in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Speed was appointed an officer in the Order of Australia (AO).

He was honoured for his distinguished service to sports administration, legal education and professional associations.

Speed’s sporting involvement started as something of a hobby, while he was working in his career as a barrister.

He served as chairman of the National Basketball Association, before stepping into a full-time key sporting role as CEO of the Australian Cricket Board (now known as Cricket Australia) in 1997.

Then, in 2001, Speed was chosen as CEO of the International Cricket Council – a position he held until 2008.

In 2011, Speed joined Richmond’s board of directors.

The following year, he was inducted as a member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

And, in September 2014, Speed took over as president of Cycling Australia.

The Club congratulates Malcolm on his well-deserved Queen’s Birthday honour.
