Hard-running Richmond midfielder Shaun Grigg has signed a two-year contract extension, which will see him remain at Tigerland until at least the end of the 2015 season.

Grigg has been a key member of the Tigers’ midfield brigade since being traded from Carlton at the end of the 2010 season.

“Shaun has been a great addition to the Richmond Football Club, both as a player and a person of great character, who is highly regarded by his peers,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson.

“He has become an important member of the team, with his ability to find space and use the ball efficiently, as well as providing valuable leadership skills to the playing group.

“We would like to acknowledge Shaun’s management team, led by Alex McDonald, for the professional manner in which the discussions were conducted.”

After 43 games in four seasons with the Blues, Grigg has missed just one game for Richmond in almost three complete seasons.

The 25-year-old had a career-best season in 2012, where he averaged 26 disposals, kicked 18 goals, polled 11 Brownlow votes and finished fifth in the Jack Dyer Medal.

So far in 2013, Grigg has averaged 21 disposals, three tackles and kicked 11 goals.  He’s also performed several valuable negating roles on some of the opposition’s most damaging midfielders.

He played his 100th AFL game in Round 15 this year, against North Melbourne.
