Experienced Tiger Jack Riewoldt says Richmond’s winning run and finals berth has instilled a strong sense of belief amongst the playing group ahead of Sunday’s elimination final clash against Port Adelaide.

After a tough start to the season, Riewoldt believes the Tigers have matured as a group with their ability to secure a result when challenged, especially interstate.

“It’s pretty tough to get back in front after you headed it away against some good sides. Adelaide was one, West Coast was another and obviously Sydney last night, so it just proves the maturity of the group,” he said on 3AW on Sunday.

“We’re growing up and we’ve got really, really strong belief in each other at the moment.”

Riewoldt booted four goals and was a pivotal figure in the Tigers win against Sydney but admitted to being in awe of Alex Rance’s outstanding performance down back and praised his teammates for lifting in the dying stages of the game.

“Defensively we couldn’t have asked for any more from Alex, along with the other guys down back,” Riewoldt said.

“For individuals to stand up and take the onus and take the big grabs, we had three big marks in the last minute-and-a-half where Alex, Troy [Chaplin] and Benny Griffiths stood up and took big pack marks when we needed them to.”

“It’s just those guys taking their moment and standing up for the footy club.”
