Richmond will be hoping lightning can strike three times in the same place, when it takes on reigning premier Hawthorn at the MCG in a big Round 6 encounter on Sunday.

The Tigers have pulled off major upset wins in their past two clashes with the powerful Hawks’ outfit (2012 and 2013), and will again enter this match as clear outsiders, given both team’s respective performances so far in season 2014.

Notwithstanding a narrow loss to Geelong on Easter Monday (its first for the season), Hawthorn has been in ominous form this year, with impressive rebound out of the back half and goalkicking options galore a real feature of its game.

Richmond’s start to the season has been much slower, but it gained four precious premiership points against Brisbane at the Gabba in Round 5, and a bit of a confidence-booster along the way.

The Tigers have recalled talented, young utility Matt McDonough to replace injured on-baller Matt Thomas, while the Hawks have brought in their 2013 premiership full-back Brian Lake for his first game of the 2014 season.
