Experienced key defender, Troy Chaplin, will make his debut for Richmond in tomorrow night’s blockbuster opening round clash with Carlton at the MCG.

Chaplin, who joined the Club as a restricted free agent late last year, following a 140-game career at Port Adelaide, is the only new face in the Tigers’ line-up.

The 195cm, 99kg, 27-year-old has progressed strongly through the pre-season after undergoing knee surgery late last season while still with the Power.

“He’s a very good player, but he’s also got outstanding leadership qualities and will further help guys such as Alex Rance, Ben Griffiths, Jake Batchelor, all these types of players around him,” said Richmond ‘s coach Damien Hardwick.

Another Tiger mature-age recruit tipped to line up against the Blues, in Rickey Petterd, has been sidelined with groin soreness.

The three emergencies named by the Tigers for the season-opener are Matthew White, Nick Vlastuin and Chris Knights.
