As predictably as he did the right thing, at the right time, on the field during his debut AFL season, Nick Vlastuin has taken out the Cosgrove-Jenkins award for being Richmond’s best first-year player in 2013.

Vlastuin, who was the Tigers’ first pick (No. 9 overall) in the 2012 National Draft, played 18 games, averaging a highly-respectable 16.3 disposals and 4.8 marks per match.

He received an AFL Rising Star nomination for a top-class performance in Richmond’s 41-point victory over Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in Round 7.

The following week, he racked up a season-high 25 disposals and 16 marks against Melbourne at the MCG.

Vlastuin finished the season ranked second overall among the league’s Rising Stars for total contested marks.

The 19-year-old further underlined his considerable potential with a polished display in the Tigers’ elimination final against Carlton before a massive crowd of 95,000.
