Dustin Martin has gone further ahead in the AFL Coaches Association’s Player of the Year award.

The superstar Richmond midfielder produced another powerful performance, in last Saturday night’s Round 19 match victory over Gold Coast, finishing with a team-high 34 disposals, a game-high 16 contested possessions, game-high seven clearances, game-high 11 score involvements, team-high seven inside-50s, five marks, a goal and a team-high 490 metres gained.

Martin duly received nine votes from respective coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Rodney Eade (Gold Coast) to take his overall tally in the prestigious award to 101, which is seven ahead of his nearest rival, Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield (94), with Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell third on 69.

Richmond’s captain Trent Cotchin was rewarded with five votes for his inspirational efforts throughout the match.

Cotchin had 25 disposals, nine contested possessions, five clearances, five inside-50s, five intercepts, four tackles, seven score involvements, a goal, 13 pressure acts and 386 metres gained.

Talented small forwards Daniel Rioli and Jason Castagna were the other Richmond players to poll coaches’ votes in Round 19.

Rioli was awarded three votes for his valuable contribution to the Tigers’ win – 16 disposals, four marks, three inside-50s, five tackles, 14 pressure acts, eight score involvements, an equal game-high three goals (all scored in the first quarter) and 330 metres gained.

Castagna picked up two votes after finishing with 16 disposals, six marks (a team-high five of them inside forward-50), nine score involvements and an equal game-high three goals.
