Richmond captain Trent Cotchin has highlighted the impact experienced recruit, Troy Chaplin, has had in his first season at the Club.

Chaplin, who joined the Tigers as a restricted free agent last October, following a 140-game career with Port Adelaide, has played a significant role in helping bolster the team’s defence.

“He’s a mature head and he’s played a lot of footy,” Cotchin said on this week’s episode of the Club’s official podcast “Talking Tigers”.

“Whether or not he’s playing on the (opposition’s) No. 1 forward, or he’s the one that’s chopping out and impacting as a spare, it’s a great role for him.

“I think a lot of our defenders, who have been in the system for a decent amount of time now, but not quite as long as him, are learning a lot from him.

“He just sees the game really well . . .”
