Australian Diamonds Netball Coach Lisa Alexander and Olympic gold medallist Lydia Lassila are among a panel of industry experts that will headline the most unique sports education and leadership program in the country.

Richmond Football Club, and Swinburne University of Technology, has now finalised modules for the 2017 Richmond Institute of Sports Leadership (RISL) program, and confirmed the participation of industry experts.

The 12-month program, to be launched in February, will combine a Diploma of Sport Development (SIS50612) and a Diploma of Leadership & Management (BSB51915), whilst continuing students’ development as athletes and establishing future employment and education pathways.

The four modules of the program, along with the industry experts who will deliver key note addresses and help in the development of the content, will be:

  1. Managing the Business - Brendon Gale (Richmond Football Club CEO)
  2. Coaching the Team – Lisa Alexander (Australian Diamonds Netball Coach)
  3. Athlete Performance – Lydia Lassila (Australian Olympic Gold Medallist)
  4. Becoming a Leader – Peggy O’Neal (Richmond Football Club President)

“I am delighted that such high-quality industry experts will help to deliver this brand-new program in 2017,” Richmond president Peggy O’Neal said.

“We look forward to helping to develop future leaders, many of whom will have aspirations to work in the sports and fitness industries”.

With a strong focus on experiential learning, students will be provided with unrivalled practical opportunities that focus on the development of skills that assist with education and future employment as well as athlete and coaching performance.

The Institute will be located on the corner of Church Street and Swan Street in Richmond, where class room facilities are co-located with gymnasium facilities for the students to move between practical and theoretical content delivery.  Facilities at both the Richmond Football Club and Swinburne University of Technology will be used throughout the program.

Places in the program are limited and the final open days for 2017 will take place on Wednesday January 18th at 10.30am and 2pm and Saturday January 21st at 10am.  Open Days are hosted at Richmond Football Club.
