Richmond copped some criticism for slow ball movement in its narrow opening round victory over Carlton at the MCG, but the Tigers’ star key defender Alex Rance doesn’t subscribe to the theory that a non-stop, quick tempo on-field automatically leads to success.

“It’s probably just about identifying when’s the time to go fast, and when’s the time to go slow,” Rance told ‘Fox Footy’.

“That’s about maturing as a group.

“The more game we can get into those younger players, and the better we can lead as leaders, the better ball movement we’re going to show.”
