Bill Barrot

Throughout 2025, we have been transporting Richmond supporters back 60 years to what was a pivotal year in the Club’s history – 1965. Our focus today is on Bill Barrot’s Best and Fairest win.

Bill Barrot capped off a top 1965 season by winning Richmond’s Best and Fairest award.

Captain Neville Crowe finished runner-up, with star key forward Paddy Guinane in third place.

Barrot was a worthy winner, averaging 22.6 disposals (19.9 kicks, 2.7 handballs), 4.7 marks and kicking 13 goals in the 15 games he played.

He was ranked second in the competition for kicks per game and fourth for disposals per game.

The dynamic centreman racked up 20 disposals or more 11 times throughout the season.

His highest disposal count for a match was 35 in the Round 17 clash with Carlton at the MCG. He also took a season-high 12 marks that day.

Barrot’s best goal return in a game for the ’65 season three, which he managed twice – in the opening round against Melbourne at the MGG, and the Round 6 encounter with Carlton at Princes Park.

He also was a Victorian state representative that year.

Recruited by Richmond from Melbourne suburban club Ashburton, Barrot made his senior debut with the Tigers in 1961.
