Richmond coach Adem Yze is confident he'll continue to utilise Tim Taranto in the forward line at times, allowing his young brigade to build meaningful midfield minutes.

Taranto stood tall in the Tigers' loss to Fremantle in Round 3, booting two goals, while also amassing an impressive 24 disposals, 10 tackles and 13 contested possessions.

But the emergence of the stand-in skipper up forward is something that's been well in the works, according to Yze.

"We've been doing that a little bit through the pre-season. We want Tim to play forward, he's a very good forward and he's done it before," Yze said post match in Perth.

The key move, which helps add important goals on the board, also allows the next generation to find their feet in the middle.

"He'll give opportunity to Sammy Lalor to go inside [on ball] and Seth Campbell," Yze said.

"We need to expose some of our younger players through the ground and at the same time, have a potent front-end."

But it doesn't stop there. The senior coach also ran third-gamer Sam Grlj through the midfield in the second half, giving the teenager his first real shot to run alongside some of the AFL's best.

"We tried a couple of different things. Sam Grlj went inside in the last part of the game to give him some exposure as a midfielder. We'll look at that and keep trying to grow those parts of his game," Yze said.

Grlj, who has featured off the half back line through his first two career matches, recorded 18 disposals, three marks, three tackles and a clearance in just his third AFL appearance. Yze is confident he will continue to have a greater impact around the contest.

"It's all part of fast-tracking the development of our players. We will keep doing that," Yze said.
