Richmond's NGA Come and Try Day, Wednesday April 8

For the first time, Richmond will have access to metropolitan talent under revamped zones for the Next Generation Academy (NGA) program.

Each Victorian AFL club is allocated an NGA zone, where they have the opportunity to develop multicultural and Indigenous talent with the ultimate ambition of supporting the development of players that can be drafted into AFL or AFLW programs.

The Tigers’ updated NGA zone now includes a new Melbourne metropolitan region which stretches from Chadstone to Selby. This complements the current regional zones, which spans across Castlemaine to Mildura.

Richmond’s full NGA zone map is below.

The Tigers are already working within the new NGA zones, having ran an NGA Come and Try Day this past Wednesday, with the NGA Carnival to take place on April 13 and 14, which will include U15 boys and U16 girls teams.

Each club has a designated region to run their own NGA Program, which may involve a variety of activities including:

  • Australian Rules Football Clinics and skills sessions
  • ‘Come and Try’ days involving an introduction to Australian Rules football
  • Leadership and Teamwork programs
  • Fitness Testing and training programs
  • Education sessions (i.e. cultural awareness, nutrition, healthy living, etc.)

Participants will be exposed to an elite football environment through top-level coaching, first-class facilities and expertise across health, fitness and personal development. Each club's program may differ slightly but will involve multiple sessions across each of these key areas, that will be conducted through school holidays and/or out of hour’s programs.
