Richmond AFLW coach Ryan Ferguson says the Tigers are capable of much more than they showed in Saturday afternoon's 23-point loss to Geelong.

After facing a challenging lead-up to the match as their injury numbers continue to rise, Ferguson said the Tigers were put on the back foot early and couldn't get the game on their terms.

"We didn't bring the heat early, and Geelong clearly did. They were more hungry, more lively, more energetic and it cost us the game," he said post-match.

"We had 22 players to pick from, with a fitness test two hours before the game...a couple of our really quality players were a bit banged up and did a great job to keep fighting.

"It's been a big couple of weeks, and there are reasons why you might feel a bit fatigued or a bit flat, but I think we're still capable of much more."

With finals now looking unlikely for the Tigers, Ferguson said they would still be motivated to perform at their best in the remaining two rounds.

"We've handled lots of situations this season and come through in flying colours, and this is a really big test that's going to be important for us to make sure that we improve our game and mental resilience," Ferguson said.

"We still have two weeks to really make a mark."

Adding to their injury woes, Richmond lost Tayla Stahl (knee) and Kodi Jacques (lower leg) during the contest, with the extent of the injuries still unknown.

"We're hoping they will be fit for next week, we're down to 22 players today now so we want to make sure we've got what we need," Ferguson said.

"Ellie (McKenzie) was a bit banged up today, but she fought through and did what she could for the team...hopefully we can freshen her up, and hopefully she'll be okay for next week."
