Richmond Football Club has advised AFLW players Sophie Molan and Saraid Taylor that they will not receive playing contracts for the 2023 season.

Molan, 21, played 24 games for Richmond across four seasons after being selected with the Tigers’ first selection, No. 7 overall at the Club’s inaugural draft in 2019.

The Ballarat product did not miss a game for Richmond across the Club’s first two AFLW seasons before falling out of the side in 2022.

Molan managed just four senior matches in Season 7, all in the first seven rounds.

Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan, thanked Molan for her passion and dedication to the AFLW program.

“We wish Sophie all the best for her future pursuits on and off the field,” she said.

“Sophie can be proud to have been an inaugural AFLW Tiger, and we are grateful for her efforts across the past four seasons.”

Taylor, a 183cm prospect, spent one season on Richmond’s list but did not feature at senior level.

The 24-year-old basketballer had been training mainly in defence during her time with Richmond and had been working hard on her football craft behind the scenes.

Taylor will continue to play football for Richmond’s VFLW affiliate Port Melbourne and has been earmarked for a train-on spot with the AFLW Tigers in 2023.

“Saraid has put her best foot forward throughout the past 12 months since first being introduced to our football program,” Sheahan said.

“We are grateful for her commitment throughout this time and are pleased that she will remain close to us through our Port Melbourne affiliation and into the upcoming AFLW season.”
