Richmond coach Adem Yze said his side's inability to make the most of a decent first term perhaps led to the Tigers’ downfall after quarter time in the Round 15 loss to the Western Bulldogs.
After one quarter at Marvel Stadium, the Bulldogs held a 12-point lead, but that quickly grew to 56-points at the main break due to a seven goal to none second term.
Speaking after the game, Yze was honest in his assessment about what went wrong.
"The second quarter just wasn't to standard," he said.
"That's been a couple of weeks in a row where we've started OK and just didn't maximise our opportunities at the start.
“I think we had eight shots on goal in the first quarter and ended up with two goals. We just felt like that affected our spirit.
"We looked like we were working so hard to get our opportunities and their execution in the first quarter…they had less chances, but made more of each one.
“It felt like we should've been in a better position at quarter time and whether that's affected our spirit.
“Our second quarter, we just lost our way. We’ve got to dig in and understand why we lost spirit in that second quarter.”
The tests keep coming for Richmond, with a clash against the fourth placed Adelaide Crows set for Sunday afternoon at the MCG.
“We will look at the (Bulldogs) game, just spoke to the players about it, we will review it honestly, we will look at what we did well, we will show them the reasons why we responded in the right way,” Yze said.
“We will give them a clear path forward and all we will look to Adelaide.
“We’ve just got to get better. We will get better by reviewing the game really honestly and training hard and getting ready for another really good team in Adelaide.”
