Richmond has secured the first pick in the upcoming AFLW National Draft following a trade with the Gold Coast SUNS today.

In exchange, the Club has parted with selections 4 and 22, while receiving pick 1, pick 56 and Gold Coast’s future third-round selection.

Richmond AFLW List and Recruiting Manager, Trent Mosbey, said the trade was an exciting one for the Club.

“We are thrilled to have first access to who we think is the best player in the upcoming draft pool,” Mosbey said.

“Bringing in the highest-quality talent is always a priority, and we are pleased to also add pick 56 and an additional future selection to strengthen our hand.

“We are excited for next week’s draft, and we are sure the Tiger Army will be as well.”

Richmond last held the number one pick at AFLW level in 2020, selecting powerful midfielder Ellie McKenzie.

Sam Lalor and Brett Deledio are the Club’s two other number one selections in the AFL/AFLW since 2000.

Earlier in the trade period, Richmond also swapped future fourth-round picks with premiers North Melbourne to secure promising midfielder Georgia Stubs, further bolstering the Club’s emerging young talent.

Richmond also picked twice in last year’s first round, selecting impressive midfielder Sierra Grieves and Zoe Hargreaves, who will return to the field next year after missing 2025 through injury.

The AFLW National Draft will be held on Monday, December 15, with Richmond holding picks 1,40 and 56.
