Richmond Assistant Coach Jake Batchelor has confidence the side will apply their learnings from last week's match simulation into Friday's AAMI Community Series clash against Melbourne in Ballarat.
It's Richmond's final chance to play against opposition before the Club's 2026 season officially begins against Carlton on Thursday, March 12.
For Batchelor, the game presents the opportunity to fine-tune the good and improve on style, flow and confidence.
"Friday offers another fantastic chance to strengthen our system, enhance our collective connection and allow our players to gain valuable insights into their abilities under pressure," Batchelor said.
"We just want to get better each week with our game plan adherence, and learn from previous weeks."
The side is taking a holistic approach to improvement, ensuring the takeaways from the match will only make Richmond stronger.
"We've had a great week reviewing the game against Essendon, but also continue to focus on our own system that needs attention," Batchelor said.
There's a lot to take away from last Friday's match simulation against the Bombers, which saw all four of the 2025 draftees get a crack at the NEC Hangar, as well as valuable minutes to second-year players Jonty Faull, Harry Armstrong, Sam Lalor and others.
But there is lots to work on, Batchelor believes, with more important game exposure to come against Melbourne, who will prove solid competition.
"Consistency is key. Last week we showed great signs across all three phases, but as you’d expect with a first practice match and fresh young players, we had lapses," Batchelor said.
Friday's meeting at Mars Stadium in Ballarat will also see more veterans get a shot at some minutes before Round 1.
"We should also welcome back some more experienced players for the match, which we are keen for," Batchelor said.
The match begins at 4.10pm (AEDT), live on Fox Footy and Kayo Sports.
