Richmond is focused on responding strongly in Friday night's Anzac Day Eve clash with Melbourne, according to coach Adem Yze.

Injury blows and inaccurate goal-kicking were at the centre of Sunday’s defeat to North Melbourne, however, Yze took positives from his group’s willingness to never give up on the contest.

“To the boys’ credit, if we lost spirit and started losing our morale or we turned our toes up, I’d be really worried as a coach, but I’m not sensing that at all,” Yze said.

“(For) Dion Prestia to go back out there and lay a few tackles, and realistically we could have put him on ice for the last five minutes, but he was adamant that he needed to get out there and help the players.

“Jack Ross was trying his butt off for the last five minutes, and realistically, we could have given up if we didn’t care.

“Our players care. They know that our Tiger Army are hurting right now, and we all are, but we just have to respond and galvanise as a group and play the right way.”

Yze found a silver lining amongst the team’s unfortunate run of injuries, noting that it creates an opportunity for the next man up to step in and make an impact.

With it being a short five-day turnaround until the Anzac Day Eve clash, the young Tigers are ready to re-group and put on a performance the Tiger Army can be proud of.

“We will get some fresh boys in for next week for a really important game for our footy Club and put on a good show,” Yze said.

“In the first half, I felt like we played the right way. We are dealing with a bit at the moment, but we will band together and galvanise as a group, and we don’t have a lot of time to get ready for Melbourne next Friday.

“We’ve got to take the learnings and move on pretty quickly.”
