Brett Gourley

Richmond has appointed highly touted VFLW senior coach Brett Gourley as the Club’s new AFLW senior assistant coach.

Gourley has led North Melbourne to consecutive VFLW premierships while also serving as the Kangaroos’ AFLW Head of Player Development in recent years.

The reigning VFLW Team of the Year coach has also led Victoria in their Gather Round clashes with South Australia at senior women’s level for the past two years.

Gourley also had a stint at Essendon as an AFLW assistant coach and was a part of North Melbourne’s AFLW coaching set up prior to that from 2019-2021.

The experienced Physical Education Teacher has also served as Strathmore Secondary College’s Head Coach of Senior Boys' and Girls' Football for 14 years.

Richmond EGM of Women’s Football, Jane Woodlands-Thompson, said that it was exciting to bring someone of Gourley’s calibre into the program in a full-time capacity.

“Brett has a terrific record both developing talent and helping players perform to the best of their ability,” she said.

“His record coaching North Melbourne in the VFLW speaks for itself and he has done great things developing players to be ready to perform at AFLW level as well.

“As a teacher, he has great skills in conveying and applying a message, and he will be a huge asset to our program and implementing what Jarrad is setting out to achieve with our group.

“We are looking forward to Brett getting to work with the rest of our coaches, right away, once we officially commence on May 11.”
