Noah Roberts-Thomson joined an elite club at Richmond in his senior debut against Euro-Yroke at Marvel Stadium last Sunday.
The talented teenage small forward scored goals with his first two kicks in AFL football, becoming just the sixth Tiger to do so throughout the Club’s history.
Interestingly, two other Richmond players who achieved this rare feat also were recruited by the Tigers from South Australia, like Roberts-Thomson, who previously played under-18s football at SANFL club Sturt.
Big ruckman-forward Richard Lounder, from SANFL club Central District, was the No. 1 pick in the 1987 national draft.
Incredibly, he booted four goals with his first four kicks on debut for Richmond in Round 5 of the 1989 season against North Melbourne at the MCG.
The other South Australian on this special list is small forward Ben Moore, from SANFL club Glenelg.
Moore scored two goals from his first two kicks in his senior debut for the Tigers against the Saints at the MCG in Round 11, 1996.
The inaugural Richmond player to score two goals with his first two kicks at senior League level was Edo Benetti in Round 8, 1961 against Carlton at Princes Park.
In more recent times, we’ve had Judson Clarke with two goals v Port Adelaide at the MCG, Round 13, 2022.
And Samson Ryan chalked up three goals with his first three kicks, against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval in Round 2 of the 2023 season, but that wasn’t his debut appearance for the Tigers.
Ryan didn’t record a disposal in what was his first game of AFL football – Round 15, 2021 v the Saints at the MCG.
