Richmond's VFL side stood tall and took down the high-flying Swans by 12 points at Tramway Oval in Round 10.
Coach Jack Madgen has provided an overview of each player's performance in the standout victory.
Hugo Ralphsmith (16 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles)
“I thought it was a good first game back for Hugo after some time off. He played his wing role really well, as we’d expect, and then added some real energy in the midfield in the last quarter. He helped us get over the line. He looked above the level on the day with his movement and execution.”
Samson Ryan (13 disposals, 32 hit-outs)
“Samson was on top of his opponent in the ruck. He pushed forward hard, and I thought his ball use was good. I thought it was a positive step forward and we will continue to work on his discipline.”
Kye Annand (13 disposals, 4 marks, 1 clearance)
“It was great to have Kye in the side, and he was a big part of why we won. He had a few big contests and used the ball well. He has bought into the Richmond culture and looked like he’d been playing with this group all year. His size and athleticism stood out, and his defensive craft, knowing when to drop off and defend, was solid.”
Tom Burton (21 disposals, 9 marks)
“Burton’s attitude and work rate were great. He worked so hard with setting the ground up in offence, which is his strength. He really took hold of the game in the third quarter, which helped get us the lead. He had to sit out the end of the match due to being the AFL carry-over. I thought he played his role well and was adaptable on the day.”
Kaleb Smith (37 disposals, 7 marks, 1 tackle)
“Smith had a solid day down back and he used the ball pretty well. His ability to be clean in the contest and set his teammates up with a good handball was a standout. One thing we're working on with Kaleb is his defensive intent and his reference behind the ball. I'd love him to find the balance in being strong in offence and defence.”
Mohammed Yassine (3 goals, 12 disposals, 6 tackles)
"Moey played well on the weekend, kicked three goals and his chase and tackle pressure was the best I've seen. He found himself in defence at times, laying some pressure tackles. We will work on his discipline this week."
Joel Garner (9 disposals, 8 tackles, 2 clearances)
"I thought it was one of his stronger matches. Joel's ability to apply pressure and be physical was outstanding. He dealt out a few really big hits, putting his body on the line. He was a real calming presence for us out there. I'd love for him to find more of the footy, but his defensive intent was great."
Harry Scott (26 disposals, 9 tackles, 7 clearances)
"Scott has been strong the last two weeks. He had high tackle and high possession numbers. We saw a bit of his aerial strength as well on the weekend. One challenge for Scotty is to keep centralising as a midfielder. He can sometimes find himself gravitating towards a boundary, which can hurt us on defence, but we will work on that with him."
Lachlan Street (21 disposals, 3 tackles, 2 clearances)
"It was one of Street's better defensive games. He saved us a few times in defence, and then his composure and calmness with the footy when he won the ball was strong. His leadership and team first mentality was really strong, no matter where he played."
Mutaz El Nour (13 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles)
"Mutaz was really solid again in defence. He played up the ground a little bit more, read the ball really well, and had a few big come-forward intercepts. Mutaz has such a high expectation since he’s been playing so well this season, so it’s good to see him continue in a good patch of form."
Leo Connolly (18 disposals, 3 marks)
"Leo just keeps getting better and better every week. He's really found his feet again playing footy after a couple of years off. His ball use is exceptional. His defensive intent has been really pleasing to see as well. This generates him getting a lot of his own footy."
Zaydyn Lockwood (9 disposals, 6 hit-outs, 2 tackles)
"We gave Zaydyn a slightly different role on the weekend. We lowered his game time to allow him to support in defence and the ruck. He looked comfortable down there with some other big boys helping him out in defence, and I thought his ruck work was good. He is continuing to look settled at the level, and he continues a strong debut year."
Tom McKenzie (15 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles)
"Tom played half-back on the weekend. His ball use was solid, but a bit like a few of our other half-backs, his opponent got goal side of him too often. I love Tom in the contest, as he brings in a more defensive mindset, especially when playing half-back."
Nick Collier (1 goal, 21 disposals, 5 tackles)
"Nick started as a midfielder, before moving back to grow our defensive layers. He did that really well. His hunt around the footy and his physical pressure is really good, but then his ability to get layers and provide some depth as a high back was much needed. I was really happy with his game."
Liam George (1 goal, 13 disposals, 4 tackles, 2 clearances)
"George played his role well. I love the extraordinary stuff he brings to his game, but we want to keep up his basics as well. He is always team first, almost to a fault on the weekend, so we will work on educating him about positioning, to allow him to continue to support the side."
Sam Toner (17 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles)
"Toner was up forward again. His work right up the ground to get outlet kicks was really good, and he helped us set up our offence. It was a solid day without scoreboard impact, but we see it as a positive, as he can grow his game from different avenues."
Josh Pollocks (5 goals, 7 disposals, 4 marks)
"Pollocks kicked five goals from seven touches on the weekend. He was super efficient. His aerial work was good, he took multiple contested marks, kicked straight and provided some real touch. I think he kicked three goals in about 90 seconds!"
Caleb Nancarrow (8 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle)
"Caleb moved from defence to forward in Round 10. He provided some really good contests, didn't clunk too many, but brought a bunch to ground. When he got the ball in his hands, he made some good things happen. He had a few really nice side steps, and his GPS numbers were really impressive for a key forward. It's great to see him play and come with a great attitude, after being swung down the other end."
Aaron Sharkie (21 disposals, 7 marks, 2 tackles)
"I really enjoy coaching this guy. He's always willing to learn. He’s a great offensive player, and now he’s finding a good balance between offence and defence. He's providing really good layers in defence. He runs really hard in attack, and now we're seeing him run hard in defence as well. We are really proud of his last six games, he's really trying to play the right way and learn. This brings such great energy to the group."
Kai Stewart (1 goal, 5 disposals, 3 tackles)
"It was a bit quieter for Kai as a high forward. I would love to see him apply a little bit more forward 50 pressure, because he's really quick and tough, so I feel like that can help him get into the game a bit more. There'll be a little bit of education for him, around his forward role and the adaptability he can bring us, because he's got some real good tricks and athletic traits that we can use to be a better team."
Olli Hotton (23 disposals, 6 marks, 6 clearances)
"Olli had great leg drive around the ground and stoppage on the weekend. It was good to see him play to his strengths. He is finding a good balance of midfield and forward time over the last couple of weeks."
Sean Lai (1 goal, 18 disposals, 7 marks, 2 clearances)
"Sean had another solid game on the wing. His power and speed was impressive. He hit the scoreboard again as well. He still has some improvement to make on the wing to be a really reliable and consistent winger."
Sam Philp (13 disposals, 7 marks, 4 tackles)
"Philp played as a forward on the weekend and played his role well. He had a couple of shots at goal, but couldn’t convert them. He looks dangerous when in forward 50 with his pressure and contest work, so we will need more of that in the coming weeks."
