Richmond coach Adem Yze says the Club will continue to “fast-track” opportunities for its young talent.
While managing a lengthy injury list, the Tigers have still debuted seven players this season, the most of any team, while the young core has gained valuable exposure throughout the campaign.
Speaking on Fox Footy on Monday night, Yze used the example of Taj Hotton’s first AFL match of 2026 last Sunday against North Melbourne as an illustration of how the Club is investing in the growth of the young core.
“On the weekend…[it was] Taj Hotton’s first game for the season. We need to give those players exposure,” Yze said.
“Realistically, if we had everyone available, maybe Taj needed another game at VFL level, but we want him to play on the MCG, and we need him to grow on the MCG.
“We will fast-track some of the opportunities for our younger players.”
Yze added improvement is still at the forefront of Richmond’s operation, with some growing pains expected as the group builds its chemistry and connection.
“Within game, and week to week, we expect to improve,” he said.
“At quarter-time [on Sunday] it was almost 50 uncontested marks [to North], and in the second quarter after some adjustments and some coaching, we took it down to 24, and the game looked different. Our players understand that.
“If there’s issues with clarity or they look confused out there, that’s on me. But I haven’t sensed that.
“We understand the way we need to play in all three phases, and whenever we make adjustments, they can rectify that out there.
“The in-quarter adjustments are really tough at the moment with a few of our older guys out.”
