Powerful Richmond forward Mykelti Lefau has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal, tying him to the Club until at least the end of 2028.
Lefau, 28, has put together a strong season for the Tigers, booting 14 goals from 14 matches and averaging three tackles and 3.4 marks per game.
The 195cm New Zealand-born rugby convert brings physicality and genuine goal threat to Richmond’s forward half, as well as the flexibility to provide an extra relief ruck option for the team.
Lefau has overcome the knee injury that ended his bright debut 2024 season early and contributed to him playing just one game at senior level in 2025.
The accurate kicking Lefau has booted 28.11 across his 25 matches at AFL level, including eight games with multiple goals.
He booted a career-high four goals against GWS in Gather Round earlier this season and was one of the Tigers’ best in the weekend’s game against Carlton, with another two majors, 10 disposals, and six contested possessions.
Richmond General Manager, Football Talent- Blair Hartley said that Lefau had worked hard to re-establish himself at AFL level after being cruelled by injury.
“It has been terrific to see Mykelti get some continuity back into his football after being unlucky with injuries in recent years,” he said.
“He has put in a lot of hard work to put himself into this position, and his contract extension is a reward for that effort.
“Mykelti’s teammates love playing with him because of the skill set he brings, and we are thrilled it will continue for another two years.”
Lefau initially joined the Club’s VFL program in 2022 before winning his place on the AFL list in February 2024 as a Supplementary Selection Period (SSP) signing.
His contract extension will take him through to the end of a fifth season on the AFL list.
