Richmond coach Jarrad Donders admits his side has some work to do if they want to match it against the high-flying Blues in Round 7, despite being 4-2 after six rounds of the season.

The Tigers held on to defeat the Giants by seven points on Sunday in Canberra, recording their fourth victory of the year, and putting them in equal fifth on the ladder, sitting in ninth due to percentage.

For Donders, the improvement is already on display, with evidence of rapid and fearless ball movement across the ground, resulting in high scores that are difficult to beat.

The next step for the Tigers is putting in a four quarter effort to secure victory well before the final siren.

"We probably fell away from our game a little bit in the second half. There are some areas we will continue to get better at with our consistency across four quarters," Donders said.

"The first half of the game was us and we're really pleased with that, but we will get better at what we're doing.

"There's a little bit of work we can do around the way we move the ball, the way we defend while we've got the ball in hand and set up the ground, and also our contest method.

"We will review it and look forward to progressing to the second half of the season."

That foundation of fast-scoring and free movement has been on show thanks to Donders' key forwards, with Olivia Wolmarans (three gaols), co-captain Gabby Seymour (three goals) and Caitlin Greiser (one goal), sharing in seven of Richmond's nine majors on Sunday.

It's a glimpse into the changes Donders and his coaches made in the off-season, but also a chance to allow Wolmarans to fly on the big stage.

"It's been awesome to work with Liv...someone that's really talented," he said.

"The support she's got with our coaching staff, Fev [Brendan Fevola] as her line coach and the senior leaders she's got around her.

"The aerial impact, the contest she's bringing and the opportunity to hit the scoreboard is just really exciting for our Club and also for the competition and the growth of where the women's game is going."

Carlton lie ahead for the young Tigers, who will be looking to push themselves into finals contention as the second half of the season rapidly approaches.

The Blues also have four wins, but have shown genuine signs of improvement and ferocity, providing a great test for the Tigers on Grand Final eve public holiday. 

"They're a growing team in the competition. I think they might be top four at the moment. They've been growing and improving for a number of years now," Donders said.

"They're a team that we want to bring a challenge to. We want to be a top four side, and we get our first opportunity to have a crack at them [this] week and we look forward to it."
