Kane Lambert clearly is one of the most improved players in the AFL competition this year.

The speedy, determined Richmond midfielder has maintained a high level of performance during season 2017, culminating in a ‘perfect’ 10-vote game, in the prestigious AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year award, for his excellent display against Hawthorn at the MCG last Sunday.

Lambert has generated considerable drive for the Tigers’ team through his ball-getting ability, hard running and creativity.

In his 18 senior appearances, he’s averaged 20.8 disposals, 7.5 contested possessions, 5.1 tackles, and 3.4 marks per match.

Compare that to his first season with the Tigers in 2015, when he averaged 15.6 disposals over 13 games, and last year, when he averaged 14.7 disposals in 15 games.

Such has been Lambert’s consistency this season, a top-five finish in the Jack Dyer Medal is certainly within his reach.

The significantly improved form of Lambert in 2017 hasn’t surprised those within the four walls at Tigerland.

“It’s no real surprise to us because we’ve seen him build this form over a couple of years,” key Richmond midfielder Grigg said on this week’s edition of the Club’s official podcast ‘Talking Tigers’.

“He’s up there as one of our best runners, and he just tries his heart out . . .

“It’s pretty tough when you’re in and out (of Richmond’s senior side), which he was in his first couple of years.

“But now he’s had a solid block and he’s flying.

“He’s reaping the reward of playing consistently.”
