You have to go all the way back to the opening three rounds of the 1953 season for the previous time the Tigers were involved in three ‘cliff-hangers’ on-the-trot . . .
Round 1, 1953 – 11.7 (73) defeated Melbourne 9.13 (67) at Punt Road.
Round 2, 1953 – 11.14 (80) lost to Fitzroy 12.9 (81) at Brunswick Street.
Round 3, 1953 – 15.8 (98) lost to Carlton 16.8 (104) at Punt Road.
Richmond won only three games in ’53, and played a draw with Melbourne (Round 12 at MCG), but five of its 14 losses were by less than 10 points.
All-up this season, the Tigers have had five games where the final margin has been under a goal. As well as the three results listed above, they lost to Port Adelaide by three points at AAMI Stadium in Round 8, and then defeated Fremantle by three points at Subiaco in Round 10.
In a nod to Richmond Football Club’s proud history, the restoration of brickwork from the former Jack Dyer Stand into the new Redevelopment has been a key priority.
