Shai Bolton gets a handball away in Thursday night's win over Carlton.

Richmond young gun Shai Bolton showcased his exquisite skills in last Thursday night’s Round 1 victory over Carlton at the MCG.

The 22-year-old dual premiership Tiger set the team alight with his centre-clearance work, elite speed and first-class creativity around the ground.

He had 25 disposals, an equal game-high and AFL career-high nine clearances, including a game-high/career-high six centre clearances, eight inside-50s, seven score involvements, 554 metres gained and kicked a goal.

According to veteran top Tiger triple premiership player Kane Lambert, the football world is at the feet of the highly-talented Bolton.

“He’s a star, Shai,” Lambert said on SEN.

“The scary thing about him is he’s a dual premiership player and there’s so much growth in his game.

“He probably has the ability to play a similar role to what Dustin (Martin) does . . .

“As his career progresses, he’ll find the right mix between when he needs to be inside, or when he’s in the forward half. “

Lambert believes Richmond is in great shape for the future with a band of emerging, talented youngsters, who have already enjoyed premiership success.

“There’s a group of players like Shai Bolton and Jayden Short, Jack Graham, who we saw play really well last (Thursday) night, and Noah Balta. These are players with a lot of experience in senior footy and premiership players, but the growth of their game is so exciting,” Lambert said.

“I think they’re probably going to take a fairly heavy burden and allow people like ‘Cotch’ (Trent Cotchin), Shane Edwards and Dylan Grimes, to just sort of take a bit of a back seat and hand over the responsibility to that group of players.

“So, it’s an exciting place to be, and we’re really fortunate with the list that we’ve got.”
