Dylan Grimes and Toby Nankervis will lead Richmond for a second season as co-captains, following endorsement from their peers, football department and the Board this week.

The playing group and football department, working closely with the Club's Head of Leadership Development, Shane McCurry, review leadership annually through a process that includes multiple stages of voting, discussion and evaluation, that is based on criteria developed by the playing group.

The triple premiership players were formally appointed last year as the Club's first ever co-captains in VFL/AFL history, with the recent process endorsing their impact as a leadership combination on and off the field.

Nankervis played in all 23 matches last season, finishing a career-high eighth in the Jack Dyer Medal.

The 28-year-old remains a barometer for the Tigers and will continue to play an important role in Richmond's new-look midfield in 2023. He is widely admired for his gladiatorial style of play and attack on the ball.

Grimes, 31, is a two-time winner of the Club's prestigious Francis Bourke Award, underlining his ability to embody the playing group's most deeply held values.

The consistently outstanding defender who ticked past 200 AFL matches last season remains a crucial cog to Richmond's backline and has thrived with extra leadership responsibilities.

Richmond General Manager- Football Performance Tim Livingstone said that the pair had flourished as leaders while continuing to set high standards.

"Dylan and Toby led our group and broader organisation wonderfully in 2022, complementing each other while also leading as individuals terrifically well,” he added.

"We are looking forward to seeing them continue to grow with the role this upcoming season and are delighted that the group has endorsed them for another year.

“Together they are great drivers of our culture and values and excellent contributors on and off the field. It will be exciting to see what these young men can help us achieve in 2023 and beyond."
