Thomson Dow was a bright light for Richmond in an otherwise bleak late afternoon clash with St Kilda under the Marvel Stadium roof yesterday.

The young inside midfielder, making only his second senior appearance with the Tigers this season, and 15th overall at the game’s highest level, produced an impressive performance, winning plenty of ball and ‘feeding’ it to teammates.

He finished the match with 21 disposals (10 kicks, 11 handballs), eight contested possessions, six marks, three inside-50s, four clearances, six score involvements and 180 metres gained.

Interim Richmond coach Andrew McQualter acknowledged Dow’s display during his post-game press conference.

“I was really pleased for ‘Dowie’,” McQualter said.

“He was significant around the ball for us.

“I thought he had a real impact and played well, which is good to see for him.”

McQualter also commended the efforts of young Tiger utility player Jacob Bauer, who booted two goals in just his third AFL game.

“Jacob showed some great signs up forward,” he said.

“We got him some minutes down back late in the game as well. We know he can play both ends.”
