Important utility Liam Baker and young defender Hugo Ralphsmith will return to Richmond's line-up for Sunday's trip to face West Coast at Optus Stadium.

Baker is back for the clash in his home state after serving a one-game suspension for rough conduct in Round 3 against Sydney.

Richmond coach Adem Yze said the "spirit" the tenacious Tiger provided was second to none.

"He's in terrific form," Yze said.

"We really missed him last week, that small ground would have suited him. He's a small man with a big heart.

"For him to get back around the group and back amongst our midfield group, especially with (Jack Ross) going out, it's handy to have him available, that's for sure."

Hard-running Ralphsmith will come in to play his first game of the season after impressive displays in the VFL Tigers' opening two wins.

In Round 1 of the VFL, the 22-year-old racked up 25 disposals, nine marks and four rebound-50s. The following week, he recorded nine disposals at 89% disposal efficiency and booted a goal while playing one half.

"Hugo's in super form and the way he has approached his footy lately is a real credit to him," Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris said of Ralphsmith recently.

Coming out of the side is Tim Taranto, who had surgery today after fracturing his radius at training this morning, and Ross, who is set to miss up to eight weeks after scans revealed a stress fracture in his foot.

Richmond's has named Steely Green, Sam Banks and Sam Naismith as its three emergencies.

The Club will name its substitute 60 minutes prior to the first bounce on Sunday.
